This is getting so intense. I was a bit iffy when the second series started, because I didn't know how this very contained story would hold up for a second run, but I'm liking this a lot at the moment. With the overarching question of the first series mostly gone, the floor has opened up for a lot more individual intrigues and new characters.
I'm not entirely sure about the Initiative. When it turned out last week that they had Nolan's girlfriend in their pockets as well, I was a bit "oh, come on", but they tied it together so nicely this week that I'm too curious now to be skeptic. Also, I love a scheming Nolan. (and honestly, who wouldn't buy a house for a secret passageway?!)
Aidan is scary now, but that's very in character for him, and I thought it was a bold and very good move on the writers' part. They put them all in impossible situations and of course everything is turning out badly or at least dramatically, and we get all the suspense.
I have to admit though that I'm not terribly interested in the Stowaway sideplot at all. It just all feels so tacked on, because everything else is connected, but unless the Initiative turns out to be the ones after the waterfront, this is just some sort of appendix dangling at the side somewhere. And since they get comparatively little screen time and their story isn't really connected to the rest, it (out of necessity) isn't very complex, which doesn't fit with the tone of the show in my opinion. And honestly, that guy at the end (I keep getting the brother's names mixed up) talking about "muscle" and applying the right pressure... The brothers working together with Conrad might turn out more interesting, but then, frankly, I don't see a lot of hope for the Stowaway. I like Amanda more these days, but I always cringe a bit when she interacts with Charlotte... Who is a Clarke now? Because she had one crappy birthday?
Oh well. You're still teenaged at eighteen.
Another thing I'm curious to see is how Emily develops now - they've made her so much more human this series, and that has worked out quite well so far, but it also means that she needs to have a human reaction to this.
And somehow I'm not buying that Daniel was faking his love for Emily all the time. He never seemed that good an actor, and it feels like a bit of a cop out what he said there (either on his or on the writers' part).
All in all, definitely something to look forward to tomorrow...
